Unfortunately, you can't get any further here by bike - nature reserve - entering prohibited. Unfortunately, the viewing area has no seating, but it does have a roof - so it's limited as a "trip destination", but if you're nearby anyway, it's worth the little dangling look. By the way, there is no ascent to the viewing platform - it is at ground level, the marl pit opens downwards ;-)

The over 100-year-old and 30 to 40-meter-deep marl pit has been dormant for almost 50 years. Poplars that had been reforested in the meantime were removed, and a viewing platform was added to the site for visitors. A pump prevents the pit from flooding, allowing the flora and fauna typical of the former Seckbruch landscape northeast of Hanover to flourish at the pit floor. Due to the marl's elevated salinity, coastal species also occur.
