The heather areas of the Misselhorn Heath near Hermannsburg are among the most beautiful in the Südheide Nature Park. Here two large heather areas flow into one another: the Misselhorn Heath and the Tiefental, which is often also called "Heath area on the Eicksberg".
Gentle hills with extensive heathland, which are repeatedly interspersed with gnarled junipers, characterize the landscape. The Misselhorner Heide begins 1.5 km east of Hermannsburg and is part of the "Heideflächen Mitteles Lüßplateau", a nature reserve in the Südheide Nature Park with a total area of approx. 293 hectares , also includes the heather on the Schillohsberg.
The Tiefental borders directly on the Misselhorn Heath. In the Ice Age, a deep dry valley was created here, which is particularly diverse in terms of landscape.
The deep valley
Although the Tiefental is only a few hundred meters wide, it impresses with a unique panorama. In the Tiefental around 1860, the well-known missionary founder and Hermannsburg pastor Ludwig Harms gave sermons in this unique setting. A notice board on the way of the Heidepanoramaweg provides a lot of information about this. Guided hikes in the footsteps of Ludwig Harms into the Tiefental are also offered.
