The Grevelquelle pond is the most important amphibian spawning waters in the west of the central Salzgitter mountain range. In addition, there are only two ponds built by the nature and environmental aid Goslar, at Heimerode and on the southern Hirschberg. In the Grevelquelle pond the following have been proven: common frog, common toad, midwife toad, green frog, smooth newt, thread newt, alpine newt, crested newt.
