The idyllically situated Hillersbach reservoir and the reservoir in Hirzenhain are used to generate energy for the village of Lißberg.
The Hillersbach reservoir, with its seven meter high dam and 162,000 cubic meters of storage capacity, serves as the upper basin of the Lißberg Nidder power station.
Via a meter-long downpipe with a diameter of 1.60 meters, the water shoots from the pressure equalization tank "Wasserschloss" to the Nidder power plant.
About three cubic meters of water flow through the turbines there every second, dating from 1921.
Two sets of machines work in this powerhouse, the smaller set of machines has an output of 750 kilowatts and the larger 1500 kilowatts.
This generates an average of 3.5 million kilowatt hours of electricity each year. That covers the annual needs of around 2,300 households.
