The Eagle Tower, standing on the banks of the Rhine, is a remnant of Rüdesheim's former town fortifications. It was built in the 15th century as the southeastern corner bastion of the town wall.

Later, the late Gothic tower was converted into the "Zum Adler" inn, where Johann Wolfgang von Goethe stayed on several occasions.

The Eagle Tower is part of the former town fortifications of Rüdesheim, of which only a few remnants of the walls remain besides this tower. The tower was built at the end of the 15th century.

In the 19th century, the tower housed the inn "Zum Adler" (At the Eagle), from which its name derives. Even Goethe frequented this inn several times during his stays in Rüdesheim.
