The Adlerturm, which stands on the banks of the Rhine, is a remnant of the former city fortifications of Rüdesheim. It was built in the 15th century as the south-eastern corner bastion of the city wall.

The late-Gothic tower was later converted into the "Zum Adler" inn, in which Johann Wolfgang von Goethe also stayed several times.

The eagle tower is part of the former city fortifications of Rüdesheim, of which apart from this tower only a few remains of the wall have survived. The tower was built at the end of the 15th century.

In the 19th century the inn 'Zum Adler' was located in the tower, from which the name derives. Even Goethe stopped at this inn several times during his stays in Rüdesheim.
