Weiwerd (Gronings: Waaiwerd) is a largely demolished radial mound village. It already existed around the era. It grew into a model mound village with a church in the middle and the buildings in three rings around it.
Just like Heveskes and Oterdum, the village had to make way for the large industrial expansion of Delfzijl, but because expectations were never met, the village was only partly demolished. The contrast with the adjacent industrial area is great. According to the latest plans, it should become an area for start-ups. The village is designated as a business park.
