The nature reserve (NSG) borders directly on the Elbe-Lübeck Canal and here a path leads into the NSG.
The large depression is located in the meltwater channel of the Stecknitz-Delvenau valley. Many different habitats come together in this area, including moors, riparian forests, dry and poor grasslands. They are home to the bittern and rare dragonfly species. White-tailed eagles and white storks look for their food here. A circular hiking trail leads along the edge of the protected area to the Elbe-Lübeck Canal and back.
