Toddbrook Reservoir is a gorgeous setting above the town of Whaley Bridge, often referred to as the ‘gateway to the Goyt Valley’. It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, due to the many bird species it supports, including herons and ducks.

It’s a popular spot for walkers, as well as for sailing, fishing and canoeing. It was originally built to be a feeder for the Peak Forest Canal and opened in 1838.

Toddbrook Reservoir opened in 1838 and is sited above the town of Whaley Bridge in the Derbyshire High Peak area of England. The reservoir is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) providing habitats for herons, ducks and other animals & fish, while rare mosses & liverworts grow on its shores, particularly short-lived species that grow on seasonally exposed mud.

The reservoir's dam is built from earth with a puddle clay core. On 01-Aug-2019, a single slab of the dam’s spillway chute collapsed after heavy rain, triggering the evacuation of parts of Whaley Bridge and the surrounding area, due to the possibility of the dam collapsing.
Since the near disaster of the dam breach, the path around the reservoir is still closed.

Still work going on to secure the Dam Wall after the breach in 2019
