The mill is the successor to a post mill that burned down on March 17, 1893. The current mill comes from Wateringen, where it was built in 1847 as a polder mill. The year of reconstruction in Elspeet is probably 1894 because documents indicating this can be found in the records of the Wateringen water board.

The mill was restored in 1962 and 1972, but did not come into operation after the last restoration.

For years the mill looked very desolate. Fortunately, this came to an end in November 2010 with the start of a major restoration. Among other things, the hood was removed as part of the restoration. This could be repaired next to the mill and was replaced in August 2011.

In the summer of 2012 the mill was externally restored and in the autumn of 2012 a start was made with the internal restoration and the immediate surroundings were tackled. As a result, in the spring of 2013 the mill could be used again as a grinding tool.
