Rotterdam Central Station is the central station of Rotterdam. The station processes an average of 170,000 travelers every day. The current station building, located on Stationsplein, was officially opened on March 13, 2014 by King Willem-Alexander. The train station has seven platforms with thirteen platform tracks and two continuous tracks without platform, tracks 5 and 10. Track 1 was demolished at the beginning of 2018 with the widening of the side platform along the station building to the previously platform-less, through track 2.

The station has been closed with OVC gates since May 1, 2015. Rotterdam Central is the first major station on which this has happened. The closing of the gates has been accelerated in connection with the aggression towards railway personnel, which is mainly related to fare dodging (usually not checking in with an OV chip card). To give international travelers transferring here the opportunity to check in or out, there are OVC posts on the platform for international trains.
