Very worth seeing, old building in the city center

This tower was part of the city wall built since the city was founded in 1352. It can be seen behind the moated castle in the earliest depiction of Hofheim by Wilhelm Dilich (around 1609). The upper part of the tower was used as the bailiff's apartment until about 1780. In 1787 it was auctioned off by the city as "dispensable" and acquired by Anton Krimmel.
At the earliest in 1795, at the latest at the beginning of the 19th century, it became the property of Hofheim's Jewish religious community.
In 1982 the conversion to a restaurant began in connection with the two adjacent buildings.

Originally the bailiff lived here. This circumstance gave the tower the name "Büttelturm". The building served as a synagogue (prayer room) from 1795 at the earliest. It was devastated during the pogrom night on November 9th, 1938. The half-timbered houses on both sides of the tower date from the 17th and 18th centuries. They were renovated in the early 1980s. In 1983 a wine bar opened in the tower with the adjoining half-timbered house.
