The Van Brienenoord Bridge is a bridge over the Nieuwe Maas on the east side of Rotterdam, in the Dutch province of South Holland. The bridge consists of two adjacent arch bridges with three bascule bridges in line. The road over the bridge is the A16 motorway, and with six lanes in each direction and more than a quarter of a million vehicles a day, one of the widest and busiest motorways in the Netherlands. There is also a two-way cycle path outside the arc on the east side. The total length of the Van Brienenoord Bridge is 1320 meters and the vertical clearance is approximately 24 meters.

        Island Of Brienenoord
The island of Van Brienenoord is an island in an outer bend of the Nieuwe Maas near Oud-IJsselmonde. The island was created at the beginning of the 19th century by the silting up of a sandbar and is 21 hectares in size. It owes its name to baron Van Brienen van de Groote Lindt, who bought the island in 1847. Van Brienen also acquired the right to deep fisheries for sturgeon and salmon between Bolnes and the Leuvehaven. At the time, Kralingseveer, opposite IJsselmonde, had the largest salmon auction in the Netherlands. In 1880 alone 100,000 salmon were caught.
