The old train station in Sourbrodt is an excellent starting point for hikes in the direction of the Walloon Fens or in the Sourbrodt Fens. Both a clear recommendation!

In 1893, the Prussian military administration planned to set up the Elsenborn military training area in the heathland and wasteland north of the town of Elsenborn. The "Bahnhof Sourbrodt" became a loading station for the units practicing on the square. In addition, the field railway of the Elsenborn military training area was built with a track width of 60 cm and a length of 3.2 km to connect the station and the military camp. This small train was primarily used to transport oats, barley and straw for the horses. Locomotive and small train were given the name "Fiery Elias".
Until 2004, Sourbrodt station was still used to handle military goods for Camp Elsenborn, with trains running via Raeren until 1989 and via Weismes until 2004. In 2004 the Vennbahn was shut down. Source: Wikipedia
