Probably originated in the early 15th century as "Kreuwelsmolen", it was a grain mill powered by hydroelectric power. In the 18th century, the inhabitants still lived from agriculture, brewery, distillery, home-weaving and oil-making. However, the tavern is mentioned by name only in a lease of 1951 between the owner Egon Graf von and zu Westerholt and the farmer Alfons Schmitz.

A little over halfway through our hike came this lovely inn with a very nice outdoor area, attentive and friendly service, and reasonable prices.
