The church celebrates the festival of the discovery, public presentation and veneration of the Holy Cross – called “Exaltation of the Cross” – on September 14th. Reference is made to the cross on which Jesus Christ was executed in Jerusalem according to the judgment of the Roman governor Pontius Pilate.

Essential parts of today's chapel, such as the two window axes of the main nave, go back to 1728. In 1904 the narrow apse was torn down and replaced by a transept and a choir in neo-Romanesque style. In 1995 the fundamental restoration took place when it was discovered that there was already a chapel in the same place around 1150 ...

Archaeological findings show that there was a chapel on this site around 1150. The chapel in Holzmülheim was first mentioned in writing in 1582. The current building dates from 1728 and has been changed and expanded over the years: in 1875 a new choir was consecrated, in 1902 a transept with a new choir was added and the ridge turret was moved from the west gable to the tower above the sacristy, and war damage was repaired by 1949. The chapel was built on a cross-shaped plan from quarry stone and roughly plastered on the north and south sides. It is a two-axis hall church with a choir closed on three sides, a sacristy extension and a three-storey tower. The hood and gable roof are covered with slate. The old quarry stone wall of the surrounding cemetery has been preserved in the northeast and in parts on the south side of the church. Source: kuladig.de/Objektansicht/KLD-344984
