The Vindhella Way is an ancient trade route between Bergen and Oslo. Built at the end of the 18th century with a gradient of 1:4, it was far too steep for horse-drawn vehicles and was therefore renovated in 1840, this time with four 180° curves, which wind their way up the mountain as serpentines with a gradient of 1:5. But the new path was still so difficult that it was only used for 30 years until it was replaced by a road around the mountain.
