07/2023: The site was used as a rubbish dump for fifty years. Since the insolvency of the operating company Thies Neelen (“Schiet Neelsen”) the buildings have been falling into disrepair. There are old deposits on the contaminated property, very high levels of pollutants are measured, and ten gardens on Hasseer Straße have been taken out of use.
According to the city of Kiel, it is an "ownerless property" and not public land. The waste management company Remondis, which "Schiet Neelsen" took over, says, on the other hand: "The site belongs to the city of Kiel." The city has surrounded the site with a massive fence.
