At the beginning of the 19th century, the healing effects of the springs and brine water in Bad Salhausen were discovered. From 1824 - 1827 the upper spa park was laid out and the spa house was built. There are a total of six healing springs in the spa park: lithium spring, steel spring, sulfur spring, Södergrund spring, Nibelungen spring and Roland Krug spring, which are said to have varying healing effects. The latter two feed the brine bath and the graduation tower.
