The windswept headland of Grune Point is a glorious stretch of coast and has more than one association with history and legend. It's a raised shingle beach that stretches for approximately a mile into the Solway and is a popular spot for watching migratory birds.
Legend has it that St John's Chapel here was once the Green Chapel where Sir Gawain of Arthurian Legend had his fateful meeting with the Green Knight. It is also where Bonnie Prince Charlie met with the Jacobites after Culloden, according to Sir Walter Scott's Redgauntlet.
