Contrary to its name, the Château des Moines has never welcomed monks
It had received the name of "Villa of the Holy Angels" because it was under the protection of the statue of a guardian angel.
The property belonged to the Jesuit Fathers until 1970.
The building was converted into a cultural center and plans were made to develop the park.
In 1994, the "Château des Moines" was destroyed and only the concierge service remains.
A stele was erected by the Amicale des Fêtes de Stembert in 1994. The engraved plaque bears the inscription “Remember the Château des Moines 1904-1994” and is surmounted by the cross which previously stood on the roof from the castle chapel.
In 2020, thanks to the ASBL Stemb'air, the park has undergone a small facelift:
1) pruning of trees requiring it
2) felling dead trees
3) cleaning of the alleys of the park
4) repair of the two pétanque courts
5) reduction in the size of accesses to prevent quads and motorcycles from ravaging the premises
6) creation of a didactic arboretum
