Saint Hubertus, to whom the church in Nordenau is consecrated, lived from 655 to 727 and is a very popular saint, best known as the patron saint of hunters. A deer with a glowing cross between the antlers is said to have appeared to him, which is often shown on Hubertus portraits. This legend was originally attributed to Saint Eustachius and over time it 'wandered' to Hubertus. His feast day is November 3rd.

        Saint Hubertus Church Nordenau

The first church in Nordenau was built in 1765. The chapel was built below the castle ruins. In April 1925 the chapel was demolished and a larger church in the Baroque style was built on the same site. The church was opened in November of the same year. The church is dedicated to Saint Hubertus. The main altar, which is artistically designed and richly decorated with figures, is particularly worth seeing.

For current service times, please see the notices in the church or the website of the Wilzenberg Pastoral Association.
