Ponds and ponds, former clay pits of the Groß Kölziger brickworks, which no longer existed for a long time, and a former peat cutting characterize the beautiful landscape of the quarry area. The Bruchmühleteiche, named after the excursion restaurant in the immediate vicinity and the water mill (1838 to around 1900) that was once located on the same site, form a charming landscape with their surroundings, which invites you to contemplative hiking in every season. The entire quarry area is home to a diverse flora and fauna. Leaves and flowers of water lilies float on the surface of the water. Various deciduous trees, birch, black alder, aspen, buckthorn and conifers cover the numerous paths and the hiking trail around the Tonschacht. Lush, semi-natural scrub forest vegetation spreads out in damp and boggy areas, especially in the almost untouched swamp area to the east of Bruchmühlenweg. Numerous insects, amphibians, reptiles, various bird species (e.g. black, green and spotted woodpeckers, jays, mallards, kingfishers) find favorable living conditions in the Groß Kölziger Bruch. The abundance of fish (carp, tench, pike, zander, eel, roach, rudd, etc.) in the waters used for fishing is remarkable.

A visit to the peninsula is definitely worthwhile, as it is a good circular route.

Also good to ride with the MTB.
