The Lauswolt estate was originally owned by the Lauswolt family and came into the hands of Augustinus Lycklama à Nijeholt in the nineteenth century. He had a mansion built there, which was later inhabited and renovated by various owners.
In 1954 the estate was bought by the Algemeene Friesche Levensverzekering Maatschappij, which later turned it into a hotel. The hotel was sold to the Bilderber group in 1990 and the location is still in use as a hotel and restaurant today.translated by
