Bassano del Grappa
The heart and soul of the place is the Ponte Vecchio over the Brenta. On February 17, 1945, the bridge was blown up by partisans and badly damaged; The action was part of an Allied plan to cut off the Nazi fascists' communication and supply routes in the region. Today's 58 m long structure was rebuilt by the Italian mountain troops - the Alpini - from 1947 to 1948 according to Andrea Palladio's plans from 1569. Unfortunately, the bridge was damaged again during the major floods in 1966 and had to be repaired again.
