One of the most impressive and well-known groups of megalithic graves in the Lüneburg Heath are the seven stone houses near Ostenholz. The protected cultural monument in 1923 combines five megalithic tombs. You are between Bad Fallingbostel and Bergen on the military training area Bergen-Hohne. You can reach them on Saturday or Sunday via Bad Fallingbostel and Oerbke Lager to Ostenholz, there follow the signs.

The seven stone houses were like the other megalithic tombs of northern Germany in the second half of the third millennium BC. Built by people of funnel beaker culture. This was the population that introduced the peasant economy in North German lowland. One of the capstones has huge dimensions of 4.6 x 4.2 m and a thickness of half a meter. Every single grave was the burial ground of a clan or a family for more than 1,000 years.

Seven stone houses - 7 stone houses that are actually only 5

The 7 Stone Houses are a burial site in the middle of the Bergen military training area, between Bad Fallingbostel and Bergen. The 5000 year old graves are probably the most important archaeological monument between Hamburg and Hanover. They have been under monument protection since 1832.

The only public access to the burial sites is via a barrier in Ostenholz, around 4 kilometers from the Walsrode motorway junction (A7/A27).
