Jean de Nivelles:

On the south turret of the Collegiate Saint Gertrude of Nivelles is a small warrior eight feet high (about 2.08 m), clothed in copper plates and in possession of a hammer. Its weight consists of 350 kg. His name “Jean de Nivelles”.

During the excavations, a substructure of two churches was found: a Merovingian (7th century) and a Carolingian church (with tombs) from the 9th century. The heavy square upper section of the west tower - projecting above the massive west work - has been demolished in recent times and replaced by an octagonal drum topped by an octagonal spire in the style of the old church.

The collegiate St. Gertrude Church in the Belgian city of Nivelles is one of the oldest and largest existing Romanesque churches.
