The Blankenese guide light line has been in existence since 1984 for ships traveling up the Elbe in the Blankenese district of Hamburg. The guide light, originally built in 1983/1984, which went into operation on November 29, 1984, was replaced in October 2020 by a new guide light line that was moved approximately 500 m to the southeast. To avoid confusion, the old lighthouses were demolished.

In September 2019, work began on the foundations
of the two new lighthouses on the Elbe River bank in Blankenese. Since the narrow streets along the Blankenese river bank are very narrow,
most of the construction materials were delivered by ship.
The new lighthouse is now located east of the Blankenese pier, near the Strandweg steps.
A 22-meter-long access bridge leads from the embankment of the Elbe River to an observation platform at the lighthouse, offering a wonderful view of passing ships.
Since January 24, 2022, cargo ships with drafts of up to 13.5 meters have been able to sail independently of the tides and up to 14.5 meters depending on the tide. On average, a
large freighter can carry an additional 1,000 containers of cargo.
Due to the deepening of the Elbe River, the speed of the tidal wave has increased. This results in more silt settling than expected. The dredgers are currently struggling to keep up with dredging away the silt to ensure the navigation channel remains deep enough.
The new upper lighthouse was erected 1,100 meters east of the lower lighthouse, at the Mühlenberg marina next to the Elbe Riverside Path. The new upper lighthouse is the fourth-tallest lighthouse
      in Germany.

As part of the deepening of the Elbe, the Blankenese top fire was relocated to the Mühlenberg.
