The Ems-Jade Canal is connected to the port of Emden via the Rote Siel and the Falderndelft. This area is characterized by historical buildings and is completely under monument protection.

The road bridge on the Roten Siel, the cyclist bridge on the Wall and the embankments on the Roten Siel and the Falderndelft were largely gone. The old swing bridge was replaced by a new bascule bridge and the rampart bridge was renovated and automated. The embankment walls at the Roten Siel were completely renewed and fitted with prefabricated clinker bricks in order to come as close as possible to the historical specifications of the Prussian caps. A staircase and seating area made of clinker bricks was created at the old music school to upgrade the area. At the Falderndelft, the existing sheet piling was stabilized with curtain-type precast concrete elements and a complete sheet piling head renovation. In the entire area of the Roter Sieles and the Falderndelfes, the outdoor facilities were redesigned with new materials, paths, squares and ramps.

In the years 1899/1900 the west pier of Emden's outer harbor was built, which today belongs to the factory area of the local industry, which is not accessible to the public. Two years later, a lighthouse was built on the pier head as a pier light, which was intended to mark the entrance to the harbor from a greater distance. For this purpose, a three meter high sandstone base was reached, on which the octagonal iron tower was placed. Light has probably always been powered electrically.

The building quickly became a symbol of the city. That didn't matter to the war strategists in July 1944: the tower was dismantled when a clear field of fire was needed to defend the harbor. In the fall of 1946, the tower was reassembled in place.

During a major overhaul of the lighthouse in 1982, it received a new lantern house with slanted windows. The old lantern house thus became superfluous, but found a new home in the center of Emden: at the Falderndelft or Roten Siel, the little house found a new, permanent use as a control stand for a swing bridge along Friedrich-Ebert-Strasse.

The lantern is easily accessible from the lightship Amrumbank in a ten-minute walk along the Delft. Source: lighthouses

The Emden Westmole lighthouse stands on the Westmole in the Emden outer harbor, which was built in 1899, and marks the entrance to the Emden harbor as a pier light.

The small, octagonal, red lighthouse with its pointed, red dome stands on an octagonal, 3 m high sandstone base.

It was built in 1901 shortly after the pier was built as a pier light to better control the harbor entrance.

By the Second World War, the beacon had become a landmark of Emden, but was then dismantled in 1944 because the tower stood in the way of effective air defense by anti-aircraft batteries.

However, the tower was so important to the people of Emder that it was rebuilt in its original location in 1946.
