The Diepenheim family, the first owners of Diepenheim House in the manor of Diepenheim, is first mentioned in 1105. The lord of Diepenheim at the time, Wolbertus, "held court on Syn Castrum next to the Watermill". The house is first mentioned in 1177, when the former castle was destroyed. A new house is built in 1180. In 1331, ownership of the house is attributed to the bishop of Utrecht, when bishop Jan III van Diest buys the manor to take possession of the whole of Twente. [1] This meant a considerable investment for the bishop, for which he even had to borrow money from his great enemy, the duke of Gelre. The castle was besieged in 1504 at the time of the invasion of the Geldersen in the Oversticht. In 1510 it was conquered after a new siege by Duke Charles of Guelders. The same duke took the house again in 1524.

      Huis te Diepenheim Castle

Huis te Diepenheim Castle is the oldest castle in Diepenheim. The house was built in 1648 by Berent Bentinck.

Baron de Vos van Steenwijk and his family have owned this castle since 1925. The estate has a total area of 180 hectares and is freely accessible for walkers. Pay particular attention to the beautiful castle gate with the incorporated coat of arms of the Bentinck and Ittersum families from 1685.
