According to legend, a Roman legionnaire was injured in the eye by a spear during a combat mission. He came to the Augenborn and washed his injured eye with the cooling spring water. After several uses, the eye was completely healed. The news of the healing spring spread quickly because the Romans particularly appreciated the value of healing springs. In 1843 the well-known St. Wendel pharmacist Dr. Emil Riegel carried out an analysis of the spring water and gave it the name “Varusquelle”. For centuries the spring has kept its reputation among the population as an ophthalmic source of healing. The vernacular therefore calls them "Augenborn" (in Bliesen "Auborre" ‘). A legendary place: a legend tells of a battle between the local Celts and Romans. A Roman legionnaire was injured in the eye, who then hit the bushes and came across a spring. The legionnaire cooled his wound. Once, twice, several times. And as if by a miracle, the eye disease was healed. Word of this quickly got around among the legionaries, but also among the local Celts. The water of the spring has therefore been said to have special healing properties for eye diseases for centuries in popular belief.

At this point / I would like to quickly / say something about the source:

To quote the incomparable humorist Heinz Erhardt (1909 - 1979), who was known to a wide audience for his word jokes and "Noch'n poem", with a short quatrain:

"There is certainly much beauty in

        on the element, the wet.

Because you can drink the water.

But you can - also leave it."

        (H.Erhardt)
