Monzel was first mentioned in documents as Monticellius in 646. In 1969, the two communities merged as part of an administrative reform, forming neighboring Osann and Monzel. Monzel is beautifully situated about 80m above the Moselle and offers a beautiful view of the river valley. A rather dreamy place, far away from all the hustle and bustle that you sometimes experience in Bernkastel or other Moselle towns.
The Mosestraße up to Monzel has a 14% gradient, you come down quickly, I drove up through the vineyards.
