The Lilienthal observatory was an astronomical research facility founded in 1782 by Johann Hieronymus Schroeter in the village of Lilienthal near Bremen. It was largely destroyed in the Napoleonic Wars in 1813. With its instrumental equipment - especially large mirror telescopes - it was one of the world's leading observatories at the beginning of the 19th century.
