In 2009, Ghent residents born in 2008 planted a birth forest for the first time in the Gentbrugse Meersen, with the help of many parents, family and friends. From 2009 to 2018, 10 birth forests were planted there. Good for more than 12,000 trees and shrubs or approximately 5 ha of forest.
