Catholic parish church Ybbs an der Donau St. Lorenz: Instead of the old castle building, the parish church of St. Laurenz was built in the 15th century. The three-aisled Gothic nave was built under the Viennese master builder Laurenz Spenning.[2] In 1466 he and his journeymen were commissioned to build the vault of the nave of the Ybbs church. Only after 1500 could the church be completed by vaulting the choir under the leadership of the provincial curator Hans Geyer. The year 1521 can be read on the choir arch as the date of completion. If the nave is still structured by a simple ribbed vault, the chancel already has a star-ribbed vault. In 1716 a fire destroyed the church's tower and interior. In 1721 the interior furnishings were baroque and the tower with a baroque onion dome was renewed. Only the tower was damaged in the town fire of 1868. After a vote by the population, the spire was designed in a neo-Gothic style in 1874, which almost restored the church tower to its former appearance.
