A century ago and before that, the Zwart Water was a peat cutting company. That is why the name Black Water. It is a biodiverse area, with many species of insects, reptiles and avifauna. It's worth a bike ride through the Kempen forests between Herentals and Lichtaart.

A unique fen that got its name because of its dark bottom color. Long ago, the dune sand was blown away by the wind. In the fen developed equally or better known as peat. And it is the peat that gives the color to the water. A beautiful viewing hut lets you enjoy the activity of birds.
