The Unstrut has been navigable since the end of the 18th century, which means that large quantities of stones can be transported. The high quality of the ashlar made the Nebra red sandstone spread throughout Germany, so i.a. it was installed in Berlin at the Reichstag and Hamburg at the old stock exchange.
