The Schönau lime shaft kiln was built in 1928. It consists of bricked field stones and has a fireclay lining on the inside, the chimney base and the furnace shaft are made of bricks. The starting material for the limestone was mined in the nearby Dörrerbruch, transported to the kiln by cable car and the kiln shaft was fed alternately with limestone and coke via the gout bridge. The stone was annealed, and at the foot of the kiln there was an outlet for removing the burnt lime. The Schönauer kiln worked until 1936 and then again from 1948 to 1950, after which it was finally shut down and is today a technical monument of the history of lime mining in the Wildenfels intermediate mountains.

On the road between Wildenfels and Schönau just before the junction in the Wildenfels marble quarries. Historically and technically interesting. Lime was burned here until 1950. Explanation on a display board that is part of a whole series of boards on the Wildenfelser Zwischengebirge.
