Will-o'-the-wisps are our experienced guides. They urge us not to leave the hiking trails. It is even very dangerous and forbidden. The peat layer is very thin and fragile in places and underneath it hides masses of water that can be several meters deep! Many have already preceded us and have 'literally gone or vanished into the peat bogs'.
