In the old style is still a wooden bell tower next to the neo - Gothic nave, which was built in 1854. The history of the church, however, goes back to the Middle Ages.

It was mentioned for the first time around 1250 and at that time already had parishes as a separate church of the counts of Wölpe. 1282, the church complex was acquired by the monastery Lüne.

With Handorf a basic model for certain church foundations becomes clear, according to which the nobility built for themselves and their people "own churches", which could be transferred to other property and later became parish churches.
Particularly worth seeing in Handorf: a bronze baptismal font from 1440, a carved Madonna sculpture ("Mary on the crescent moon") from 1450, the cross above the altar with the four archangels (around 1520) and four altar candlesticks (around 1560).
