The church was built in the 13th century in the style of the Romanesque, after she fell victim to multiple fires it was renewed in the 17th century in Baroque style again. On November 3, 1760 Frederick the Great stayed here during the battle of Torgau, and received the news of the victory here. A golden plaque reminds of it at the entrance portal.
