SollbachtalFrom 1920 to 1935 the Sollbachtal formed the border between the German Reich and the "Saar area", which was subordinate to the League of Nations. The former customs houses in Büschfeld (remaining district of Wadern) and Limbach (district of Saarlouis) also date from this time. In earlier times, the forests to the left and right of the Sollbach were populated by numerous charcoal-burning families who processed the abundant wood for iron smelting in Nunkirchen, Schmelz and Mariahütte, among others, into charcoal. The "farms" existing in Büschfeld operated an intensive coppice forest management in these forests for centuries, in which in addition to the necessary firewood for cooking and heating, the oak bark (Lohe) urgently needed by the tanneries for the production of leather was produced in a sustainable way. . The heart of the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park stretches between the Prims and Sollbach streams, which we explore on this circular trail. Along the way, we'll discover many idyllic spots on the banks of streams and ponds. Fabulous views and bizarre rock formations line our route.
