Ros Castle Hill Fort

Ros Castle Hill Fort

Hiking

5.0

(12)

The hill’s name is technically ‘Ros Hill’ but it’s commonly referred to as ‘Ros Castle’ thanks to its Iron Age hillfort at the summit. It’s easy to see why the hill was chosen, from the summit, you can enjoy a sweeping panorama in every direction and see into the Northumberland National Park as easily as you can see over to the coast. On a particularly clear day, seven other hillforts are visible.

Ros Castle is a 3000-year-old Iron Age Hill Fort, at 315m it's also the highest point in the Chillingham Hills. There is a trig point and a toposcope building with four viewpoints and a labelled diagram for each. The views are superb.
