Similar to the Trulli but with the tip cut off, the Pajare Salentine are ancient stone buildings with a circular shape. They were mainly used to store straw but over time they became bigger and bigger until they were real houses. The period of the first buildings dates back to the year one thousand and it is easy to come across them traveling in the countryside of this area of Puglia.

Here at the corner an example of truncated cone-shaped rural constructions, typical of Salento, built with the drywall technique. Generally with a sigle room with circular or quadrangular plan, has a considerable thickness wall that ensures a cool indoor environment even in the hottest months. They were used as a temporary shelter or storage such as a temporary home for farmers during the summer and for harvesting and field works. In fact it's possible to find inside them also small fireplaces, cisterns and recess set in the mighty walls.
