Cannole

This center seems to have been founded in the XII century by some inhabitants of neighboring farmhouses, that escaped the destructions carried out by Guglielmo 'il malo' ('the bad'), would have found a safe refuge among the thick reeds that covered this area. In the small historic center the structures worthy of mention are the Granafei Castle (1413) with a baronial garden full of fountains in Lecce stone, and the Baroque-style mother church dedicated to Maria SS Madre di Dio (1500) with a facade crowned by a pediment open crescent.

It borders to the north with Serrano, a fraction of the municipality of Carpignano Salentino, to the east with the municipality of Otranto, to the south with the municipality of Palmariggi, to the west with the municipalities of Bagnolo del Salento and Castrignano de 'Greci.
