Sanctuary of the Madonna of Montevergine

The sanctuary of the Madonna di Montevergine is surrounded by lush vegetation, the first construction dates back to 1595. It is said that, during the year of its construction, a shepherd boy, who was intent on carving a log of wood, lost his knife and he began to look for him anxiously, without being able to find him.

The shepherd boy, whose name is unknown, also searched among the brambles and suddenly saw a strong light and a beautiful lady who handed him the small knife. The woman was the Madonna who, enveloped in light, invited him to return to the village and to inform the parish priest so that they could all go to that place, which then took the name of "Monte Giove".

The church was built above a cave where, it is said, the Madonna appeared.
