The lakes of the Osternienburg-Trebbichauer lake area, such as the Große Rustteich, Lobitzsee and the Zuckerteich, are so-called deep mining lakes. They were created because old lignite tunnels collapsed due to deep erosion (water erosion). Today the ponds are used for fishing and swimming.
