Anyone looking at the building today can hardly believe that it is more than 300 years old. Even if most of the files on the construction of the hospital were destroyed in the great fire in the city in 1645, we do know that the first construction of the hospital must have taken place between 1440 and 1445. In 1445 Walpurga, the wife of Count Ludwig von Stolberg-Königstein, donated 100 florins to the hospital to increase the monastery funds. At that time, that was a considerable sum with which the sick and sick could be cared for for a long time. But this first hospital shared the fate of the whole city and fell in 1645 shortly before the end of the 30th year. War in ruins. A few years later, in 1667, the Oberurseler started a new building, which was completed in 1668. For centuries the hospital served as an infirmary and later as a retirement home.

The shepherd's fountain by the wood sculptor Kurt Winter from Oberursel, carved out of oak at this point, is a foundation of the then Oberurseler Bürger- und Verkehrsverein. On the day of its inauguration during the Heimatfest 1935, no water gushed from the fountain - but cider! The former location was the so-called "Weed" near the market square. The current location in Korfstrasse was not determined until the early 1960s.
