The name Moerenburg is derived from 'moer' which means peat ground or swamp and from 'borch' which can mean, among other things, a fortified (stone) house. The watered house initially functioned as a farm/residential house. This house was first mentioned in the archives in 1310.In 1384, Huize Moerenburg was sold to the abbey of Tongerlo and became a parsonage. For almost three centuries, Huize Moerenburg was the home of the pastor of the parishes of Tilburg and Enschot. Due to the Reformation, it eventually lost its function as a parsonage and was purchased by the Saint Amant family around 1648. They beautified the house and most likely created a French garden in the swamp area. Huize Moerenburg was demolished around 1750.
