The Klausen Pass is a well-known pass that takes you up to 1948 meters. It was not until 1899 that the first road on the Klausenpass was completed and in 1900 the first stagecoach drove over the pass. In 1916, the Urner Landsgemeinde decided to ban traffic, which was canceled a year later. From 1922 the coach was replaced by the "Car alpin", the postbus. This also started the era of the legendary Oldtiemer race over the Klausen.

From the Schwyzer side, the ascent leads through the enchanting Schächental with its imposing view of the Stäubifall. On the Glarner side Ortstock, Gemfairenstock and Clariden form an impressive backdrop and on the slightly shallower Urenerboden you can relax a bit before the final climb.

As part of the "Klausen Pragel free pass", the pass will be closed to traffic from Unterschächen on 22 and 23 September for more than 35 kilometers.

Amazing!!! Pretty doable also due to the flatter part halfway. Very nice climb. Not to busy in the weekend, enjoyed it a lot! Nice places to have a brake or coffee on both sides of the climb. Beautiful views!!!! Also the waterfalls very close to the road, amazing. One of the best climbs I’ve done so far!! Boyfriend agreed on that.

Magnificent views on both sides: to the east to the Austrian Alps, to the west to almost Altdorf ... ;-))
