The inviting gatehouse, with its dominant tower and outbuildings on both the left and right sides, frames a large courtyard. At the end of this courtyard once stood a castle; today, only a slight hill remains on this site. Prince Sizzo of Leutenberg resided there until his death in 1926. The castle was demolished in 1948 after a fire destroyed large parts of it.

Although the castle no longer exists, the extensive park is open to the public. The other parts of the building are residential buildings, and passage through the gatehouse is prohibited.

Magnificent and beautiful. Unfortunately, there isn't much more left. WWII struck here and most of it was demolished in 1949.

Großharthau Castle originated from a former medieval moated castle. A manor house was documented in 1241, a knight's court in 1350, and a manor in 1566. In the first half of the 18th century, the castle and manor were rebuilt, incorporating the structural fabric of the former moated castle. The new Baroque complex saw several changes of ownership, with the von Flemming, Vitzthum von Eckstädt, and von Einsiedel families, among others, claiming the castle as their own.

In 1945, the castle was looted. In early 1946, a fire broke out in the castle, which was subsequently used to salvage building materials. The last remnants were finally demolished in 1948.

The manor buildings and the gatehouse serve as residential areas; this area is accessible to a limited extent. The castle island is accessible via the public manor park.
